Mid Atlantic Wind Farms a Step Closer to Reality

Wichita Eagle/AP -- BALTIMORE — The view off the mid-Atlantic shore in the next decade could include giant wind turbines generating electricity for homes in several states if federal efforts to speed approval for the projects shave years off the process as officials intend.
It usually takes at least five years from the time contractors say they want to lease a site to the turbines being installed, an offshore wind developer official said. But still, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Thursday that the future of the renewable energy source took a big step forward with the completion of a review that showed no major environmental damage was expected from the installation along the coasts of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and New Jersey.
Salazar said that clears the way for auctions and leases later this

BIG OIL & GAS love us

Time and again we run into the same issue that is so important.

The initial investment is up front for the equipment.

After that? Mother Nature provides free energy refills.

From the story-

"Dominion Virginia Power said that it is interested in building up to 400 wind turbines in waters about 20 miles off Virginia Beach, but the COST OF THE POWER was an issue."

If any of you have seen the wind farms on the southern tip of the big island of Hawaii, you know what a good sized tropical storm can do to them.

They don't pencil out, financially. They are an eye sore when they are operational; and they are a REAL eye sore when they are derelict, oil-covered and broken ruins standing as a testament to mankind's losing battle with the powers of nature.

Just wait for a strong Atlantic hurricane.

the reason this gets built here & not on Cape Cod is because the Kennedys don't live there
Clean energy would be nice if it was truly competitive without massive government subsidies!!!

Clean energy from giant wind turbines miles off-shore. Sounds like a Win-Win to me.

Not in my backyard. They kill birds. They make noise. They're an eyesore. What if the wind stops blowing. What if the wind blows too hard....And on it goes.

Make a goal for the future:

Charge your EV off Wind and Solar generated electric while at home, work or play.
