Hopefully, a V8 is only used in applications that require it.

Well, my truck has a V8, but it's a diesel and it tows more than 10k pounds.
Although, I'm eyeing some of the 3500 Dodge Cummins w/ V6 engines for the next one...

V-8 isn't needed by most vehicles. That was in the days when gear ratios were different. In today's world, improved gear ratio provides a lot more power on the road in some 4-bangers than some of the old V-8 put out.

There is no more delicious sound in the world than the rumpty-rump of a big-cammed 400+ cubic inch musclecar engine. When you start up that big brute of an engine, not only do you hear the power, but you can feel it pulsating in your chest. Oh, yeah!

Twin cam, variable timing, fuel injection,ect...has helped the V8 eat lean. Unless ya got a lead foot it will still eat your lunch.

Hulking 6.2L? Back in the day Ford had a 7.5L. Granted the 5.4 has the power of the 7.5. My smallest engine is a 5.4 and the biggest is the 6.8.

My wife's grandmother still drives a Buick Roadmaster. She loves that car. They don't make them like that anymore.

Just bring back the large autos. I have a 1992 Buick Roadmaster and I get 32 road and 20 city. That is better than most small cars we have today. 19 years later the cars today should get 60 to 70 MPG.

Just no replacement for displacement!
...that said displacement does not always equal horsepower & torque, plenty of V8's that do nothing more than burn fuel.

Scotty99QC said it well. Make them as fuel efficient as possible, while maintaining a good amount of torque. Construction and farming require trucks with this kind of power.
I wonder if diesel engines provide this kind of pulling power? Diesel is more energy efficient and could possibly, be better for the environment.

I still maintain that these auto makers can make a vehicle get the milage that they want it to get. They haven't improved anything pertaining to milage in the last 25 years of any significance.

I had a ‘57 Dodge pickup with a V8 and I still have one in my F600 farm truck. I couldn’t do with less in that but I can’t think why anyone would want a V8 in an ordinary car, pickup or SUV.

It is really too bad that at least some trucks now would get better gas mileage than truck made 15 years ago.

Smaller is not always more efficient. Horsepower to weight ratio and end item use must be considered.

I personally have no desire for a V-8 engine... but I would like to drive a full size wagon and not a hatchback or an SUV. It seems too many people want to micromanage what kind of cars can be available to purchase. If some people want to buy a V-8 or a wagon... why can't they have the freedom to do so. Is fuel economy now some "pagan god" we should worship?

Well I bought a 09 truck & the 5.3 v-8 gets better milage than the v-6 an smaller 4.8 v-8. plus its a flex-fuel vehicle. Will run on e-85 if you want less milage. A big car with a big engine some times will get better milage if you don't pedal to the metal all the time.

With todays technology they can make these vehicles, regardless of the engine size get about any milage that they want them to get.

GM is making a for police only Chevy Caprice with a 6.0 litre V-8 engine based on the old Pontiac G-8. Which is the Holden Caprice from Australia.
